Top 10 Trends in Newyork Fashion Weeks Spring 2008

Clouds
Designers looked to the heavens for inspiration in New York, from Rodarte’s ethereal fantasy gown to Zac Posen’s series of showstopping dresses that appeared lighter than air.

Lady in red
For many designers, the statement-making look in their collection was red hot.

Shades of Grès
Madame Grès made a thoroughly lasting impression with her intricate pleats, folds, and draping. Donna Karan, J. Mendel, and Vera Wang took a page from her book, adding their own references to ancient Greece and Rome.

Off the Shoulder
Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, and Proenza Schouler all gave a two-sleeve look the cold shoulder this season.

Pajama Party
It seems more than a few designers had Hugh Hefner on the brain, with silk robes, drawstring shorts, and vertical stripes that only needed a pipe to be a complete look.

Top this
Quirky headwear ruled the runways from Erin Fetherston to 3.1 Philip Lim—get ready to embrace turbans, bowlers, and everything in between.

Desert Sands
The sexy '70s were back on spring runways, with desert-inspired naturals that sizzled like the Sahara.

Total Tomboy
Katharine Hepburn’s influence still reigns, as seen in the blazers, cardigans, and ties at Ralph Lauren and 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Tribal Rites
Diane von Furstenberg, Ohne Titel, and Oscar de la Renta all became members of a tribe of African-inspired prints.

Tropical
It’s strictly Saint Tropez and the South Pacific for next spring, with bright, bold florals in every shade of the rainbow.
