Top 10 Trends in London Fashion Weeks Spring 2008

Abstract Expressions
Giles Deacon and Marios Schwab looked to the future with enigmatic prints in bright, bold colors.

Animal Instinct
Wildlife inspired a dose of exoticism this season, with designers from Christopher Kane to Danielle Scutt venturing into the jungle to plunder python and zebra prints.

The Fade Out
Ombré has been building as a trend since last season, but London embraced it wholeheartedly for spring. Careful color gradation appeared at Luella Bartley, Matthew Williamson, and Aquascutum.

What a Sport
Sportif touches were all over the runways: athletic stripes and sophisticated sneakers at Jonathan Saunders, perforated jersey at Marios Schwab, and drawstring anoraks at Amanda Wakeley.

Neon signs
Neutrals were anything but boring on the runways, thanks to bright punches of neon that created perfect contrast.

Perfect Asymmetry
London’s strongest silhouettes revolved around a play on proportion, with varying degrees of exposed arms, necklines, and mismatched shoulders.

Color Block
Designers chose smart color combinations and worked them in wide swaths, like the lengthwise duo of tomato red and a deep regal purple at Ashley Isham.

Extreme Volume
For spring, the message is clear: The bigger the better. Oversize ruffles, fringe, and surprisingly square shoulders all made major statements.

Dark Romance
This is no girly love affair—Gareth Pugh, Giles Deacon, and Basso and Brooke all turned towards the Gothic-inspired ruffles and lace in varying shades of, what else, black.

Warrior princess:
Spring readies itself for combat with armor-inspired dresses and metallic touches that officially declare war on boring silhouettes.
